  • Most owner complaints about feline vocalisation are either to do with the intensity and persistence of the vocalisation, or the fact that it occurs at night, when family members or neighbours are trying to sleep.

  • Cetyl myristoleate (CM) is an ester (a compound produced by the reaction between an acid and an alcohol) of a fatty acid (myristoleic acid) commonly found in fish oils, dairy, butter, and animal fat. Cetyl myristoleate is recommended to treat osteoarthritis in dogs.

  • Chamomile (Matricaria recutita, Chamomilla recutita) is commonly used in human herbal medicine as a mild sedative, and as a spasm relieving herb. Because of these muscle relaxing, anti-inflammatory and anti-spasmodic properties, Chamomile can provide relief in a variety of common small animal disorders.

  • Choline is indicated as part of the therapy for dogs and cats with seizures or epilepsy. Choline appears to be effective in treating small animal cognitive dysfunction which manifests as senile behaviour.

  • Chondroitin sulfate is the major glycosaminoglycan found in cartilage. Any pet with degenerative joint disease and arthritis can benefit from treatment with chondroitin.

  • Reptiles are popular pets. Some people want to own them to be different (never a good reason for owning any pet), some enjoy the lower cost of veterinary care as compared to dogs and cats (this is also not always true), and many people who don't have the time to devote to a dog or cat enjoy the relatively "maintenance-free" appeal of a snake, lizard, or turtle.

  • The Cockatoo (family Cacatuidae) is a large bodied parrot with a crest of feathers on top of the head that stands erect when the bird is alarmed or excited. These natives of mainland Australia and surrounding islands are most widely treasured as desirable companions because of their intelligence and incredibly affectionate nature.

  • Coenzyme Q-10 ('CoQ10' or 'ubiquinone') is a fat soluble nutrient, abundant in all tissues in the body. It is a vital component of the mitochondria, the powerhouses of the cell.

  • Colostrum is the antibody-rich milk produced from the mother's mammary glands during the first few days of life. It contains a thousands of antibodies (immunoglobulins), lactoferrin, growth hormone, growth factors, white blood cells, enzymes, vitamins and substances that regulate the body's immune response.

  • Complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) covers a variety of approaches to injury and disease which can be used alongside conventional medicine or in some cases replace it. Some of the therapies are becoming increasingly popular in the West.
