Parasites

  • Toxoplasmosis is a disease caused by infection with the organism called Toxoplasma gondii (T. gondii), a microscopic single-cell organism which is one of the most common parasites of animals.

  • Recently the Vaccination Guidelines Group (VGG) of the World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA) and the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) have produced vaccination suggestions for our pets.

  • Whipworms, Trichuris vulpis are intestinal parasites which are about 7 cm long. They live in the large intestine (caecum and colon) of dogs where they cause severe irritation to the lining of these organs.

  • Broadly there are two types of worms that cause problems in the dog, nematodes (roundworms),and cestodes (tapeworms).

  • Zoonoses are diseases which are transmitted from animals to man.
